David is a Writer/Illustrator/Creative Director (also known for making great rice krispie treats). While working on his first graphic novel and animated series, he would like to share his short fiction and cartoons for free. That way, one day you'll buy his stuff because you’ll feel guilty if you don’t. David lives in New York. If you'd like to contact him, his email address is david9 AT gmail DOT com.
Totally unexpected. Dark, yet angelic. Who is this mystery man? Why her? Enchanting. Really really good! M
ReplyDeleteThank you, M. And to give you a little background on the "Mystery Man": He's also a Crumple, except he was burned in fire and then tossed. Similar to Napkin Man, who has ketchup on his face--a different kind of ketchup that was composed from elements from another world--this Mystery Man retained and brought over a different kind of fire. It lives on his page. A new element. It ignites around him when he feels a heightened emotion (anger, hate, even love, as he will soon learn)... And this fire literally eats away at him. Although it gives him great power, he must be very careful with it if he wants to survive.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteThe illustrations are amazing and I think it is your best Issue yet! I could directly relate to the allegory (fear, mountains, the horse, the hero) It is a flawless issue. I Love it! Thank you so much for sharing your gift. You are an amazing artist!!
Every issue gets more fascinating and captivating!
ReplyDeleteThe overall quality, the creativity and the artistry itself just continues to grow and generate more and more interest for me. You are truly gifted, DAvid. I love both the dark side and the humor in your work (although that was most definitely absent in this issue!) I would love to see more of it all!
Wow. Another leap forward for The Crumples. A beautiful issue, David. A new super hero has been born! I am excited and honored to witness this. Cannot wait for the next issue. Please make it soon!
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful, David - I love the concept... for me, it speaks to how out past experiences shape us, and give us certain strengths (even if they're derived from negative events). Awesome artwork, too - the smoke is particularly amazing. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteWow David, the story and images moved me and I really enjoyed the ride. I felt one with all of the emotions displayed and found myself swimming inside of the strips like Robin Williams did in "What Dreams May Come" - you pulled me in with the engaging characters and kept me there with your amazing images. I didn't want the journey to end... How do I hop on that steed so I can see what happens next??? Kudos and more kudos.
ReplyDeleteIssue 6 is the beginning of a beautiful romance. You had me with that last image in issue 5, and now I am ready to consummate my relationship with The Crumples. Stunning. Kind of an X-Men meets The Warriors meets The Princess Bride - all through the most magnificent D. A. Schulman kaleidoscope. You really must look at it several times as there is so much to take in, and like an excited child, my eyes kept moving faster to see what was next.
ReplyDeleteIssue 6 clearly brings the series to a whole new level. The world has become so well-defined. The characters are magical and mysterious, yet palpable. I want to know more about them. I want to ride on that wild fire horse with them to the next destination. The pictures are so beautiful, I want to touch them. Authentic, masterful, gritty and gorgeous storytelling. Bravo.
This work should be shared and celebrated. How long must we wait for issue 7? The wait already feels unbearable.
Thank you all for your comments. I've been alone with this strip for several months and to finally be able to share it and hear your thoughts is something I treasure. As for what happens next, there's a small hint in the very last panel. Let me know if you find it. Thanks again.
ReplyDeletedelicious..all of it.. i believe i've found another guilty pleasure..
ReplyDeleteLove her hair D.A...
ReplyDeleteI'd say you're in dharma!
